Accrue Accounting was born out of first-hand experience of the conveyor-belt approach often taken to contractor and small business accounting. Since launching in 2023, the firm has grown into a two-location practice, with offices in Derby and Poole. Chris Deakin and Tom Edwards joined founder Ricky Whitfield as directors, bringing their own experience and a shared commitment to putting strong client relationships, proactive advice and genuine support at the heart of the business. The firm works with contractors, freelancers and consultants, providing personal accounting, proactive tax planning and expert advice to help clients make confident financial decisions.
The judges were particularly impressed by Accrue Accounting’s commitment to personal, advisory-led service, with clients given a direct point of contact. The model is built around long-term relationships and understanding where each client wants their business to go, reflecting the directors’ experience of seeing where service can fall short. Accrue does not compete simply on price; it values accessibility, trust, and advice applied day to day. Having lived the rat race themselves, the directors understand the desire to work differently and build something on your own terms.
