Vera Mueller was born and raised in southern Germany. By the age of 19, she started her law studies and absolved the 2nd law state exam in Berlin. After completing her legal studies, Vera spent a year as the only in-house lawyer of a tax and consulting firm. From this experience, Vera founded her own practice in Berlin. Continuing to go from strength-to-strength, she opened her second office in Miami in March 2019.

Having named Rechtsanwaltskanzlei Vera Mueller as Boutique Law Firm of the Year, the Berlin Prestige judges were particularly impressed with the legal expertise and proven track record for achieving positive outcomes for their clients. We spoke to Vera to find out what has set this firm on the path to success.

What are the main services you provide?

My law firm provides legal consulting and representation in different branches of law, especially in international family law, private law, contract law as well as criminal law with a focus on serving clients in Berlin and Miami. I represent private individuals and companies so that, depending on the specific case, I am able to put an individual focus on the required legal work.

What areas of law have you been predominantly working on over the past 12 months?

Approximately 80% of my cases have been in international family law. These are always such extensive and very special cases that make it so interesting and always challenging for a lawyer. My clients come from all over the world; some of them have connections to Berlin or Germany, many of them from the United States, the UK, but also from the Middle East.

What do you consider to be your biggest achievement to date?

It is a constant success for me and my team if I can help every client and can stand up for them with the same motivation and passion whatever the case may be.

Are you noticing any trends in industry-specific litigation?

I would not call it trends. In contrast to the United States, Germany has a very different legal approach. Here, many proceedings, courts and judges as well as counter-lawyers are somewhat milder and do not necessarily try to enforce their will. It is more focused on achieving the mutual consent of the parties, especially in private law and family law which can of course also be a win-win for all. When I compare it with the legal sector in the UK or United States, I have found Germany to be far less confrontational. But, of course, working as a lawyer in these branches is always a challenge and triggers your perspicacity.

What do you believe are the biggest challenges facing the sector today?

You need to be unique and outstanding. Great motivation and ambition as well as hard work are no longer enough. You need that extra special something that sets you apart from others; as a lawyer, a law firm, and in everyday life.

What are the main benefits clients receive by choosing you to represent them?

When my team asks the clients, especially when contacting the firm, the answers are always similar:

  • Great and prominent reviews in a short time;
  • Offering countless legal tips on exactly the matter you are looking for, and;
  • The online presence is very appealing

The clients also appreciate the personal, individual contact and the diligent way in which we provide client services. I value effective and swift contact with the lawyer, although the clients are treated with great respect, I pick them up where they are. That’s what they appreciate the most.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I would like to encourage everyone to work courageously and briskly on what you are passionate about. The ardour and positivity that you send out comes back many times over, be it from your own employees or clients.
