BILLY PEZZACK WINS MUSIC MENTOR OF THE YEAR

Billy Pezzack is a highly creative musician with an extensive academic background including B.Mus.hons (Guitar Institute), PGDipMus (RWCMD) and M.Mus (AMS). He currently teaches guitar for Cardiff University’s School of Music and at his private studio.

The judges commend Billy for his wide-ranging mentorship specialisms. Billy has taught weekly since 2002 – from beginner to advanced level, giving lessons on singer-songwriting, folk, pop, funk, blues, rock and jazz improvisation concepts. His extensive knowledge has been recognised by many highly respected voices in the field, particularly through his M.Mus research project ‘An investigation into further possibilities for chord substitution in jazz/jazz blues’.

Billy has recently released two very contrasting works (CD and download) highlighting his innovative concepts. Released in March 2020, ‘Tea with an old lady’ is a solo singer-songwriter album with 11 original songs featuring vocal and acoustic guitar. In May 2020, Billy released a jazz instrumental album with New York session drummer Joe AbbatantuonoJoe has a account, entitled ‘Noise in my attic’ (11 original tracks /guitar trio). With his creative and technical ability combined with a theoretical background in guitar playing, Billy Pezzack is an ideal tutor for students in Cardiff and beyond.
