AVON GORGE BY HOTEL DU VIN

Constructed in 1898, this striking Victorian building atop Avon Gorge benefits from some of the best views in the UK with spectacular panoramas of the Grade I listed Clifton Suspension Bridge. Formerly known as the Grand Clifton Spa and Hydropathic Institution, the hotel has recently been restored to its past grandeur following a £16 million renovation in August 2018 as part of a takeover by luxury boutique chain Hotel du Vin.

The contemporary interiors complement the original architectural features such as Victorian plaster work, tile flooring, steam pumps and an opulent marble staircase. However, the former spa has been transformed into an exciting function space, Aquam Bibe, which pays tribute to the health-enhancing spa water served at the Turkish baths over a century ago. The historic charm of the underground space is accompanied with ceiling mounted projectors, music sound systems and flat screen TVs, alongside professional service and delicious cuisine to accommodate conferences and wedding parties.

The identity of Avon Gorge is further preserved with its chic eatery Goram & Vincent, inspired by the folklore that tells of two giants who supposedly built the Avon Gorge. The restaurant’s gritty undertones are exaggerated by the open kitchen, coal fired grills and bespoke clay ovens and smoker. Meat eaters are spoilt for choice with hand cut steaks served by the 100g and mouthwatering thick cut fillets; all can be enjoyed whilst admiring views over the gorge through floor-to-ceiling glass walls. The breathtaking sights continue at the White Lion Bar, which features one of the largest terraces in the south west, where guests can gaze over the hills of Somerset.

All 78 bedrooms benefited from the multi-million pound renovation and now ooze refined luxury emboldened by the distinctive allure of Hotel du Vin. Vibrant accents and stylish wooden furnishings complement the fresh colour palette of each space which offers lavish comforts including fine Egyptian cotton linen, handsprung Sealy mattresses, walk-in monsoon showers, HD flat screen TVs and Nespresso coffee machines. The Garden Lounge Suite includes a large living room area and access to a shared garden and private terrace, whilst the Executive Suite features beautiful bay windows and twin baths in which guests can truly indulge.

The four-star hotel is within walking distance from Bristol City Centre, with boutiques, restaurants and exquisite Georgian architecture at your doorstep. Conveniently, Avon Gorge by Hotel du Vin is located 10 miles from Bristol International Airport; a perfect location for both leisure and business trips alike.
